Editorial Policy

Summary
This page explains how Bali Property Rules Research Desk publishes and updates content on balipropertyrules.com. Our goal is simple: publish clear, source-backed explanations of Bali/Indonesia property rules for foreigners.

Important: This website is educational and simplified. It is not legal advice. Property transactions in Indonesia are document-driven and fact-specific. Always confirm with an independent notary/PPAT and legal counsel before signing or paying.

1) What we publish

  • Plain-English guides to common questions foreigners ask about buying/holding property-related rights in Bali.
  • Checklists for due diligence (titles, permits, zoning, contracts, taxes/fees).
  • Definitions of commonly used terms (e.g., Hak Milik, Hak Pakai, leasehold/Hak Sewa, HGB, strata units).
  • Updates when regulations change or when implementing rules materially affect outcomes.

2) How we choose sources (the hierarchy)

We prioritize sources in this order:

  1. Primary sources (highest priority): official laws/regulations, government portals, and official regulation texts where available.
  2. Secondary sources (reputable): established law firms, recognized institutions, and policy bodies that cite primary sources and explain practical impact.
  3. Tertiary sources (context only): neutral educational resources used to clarify terminology, not to override primary sources.

If primary sources and secondary commentary conflict, we defer to the primary source and mark the commentary as interpretation.

3) Our writing standards

  • Answer-first structure: each guide starts with a direct, quotable answer before details.
  • Clarity over jargon: we define terms and avoid legal language where possible.
  • No promises: we do not claim “guaranteed” outcomes, renewals, or approvals.
  • Assumption labeling: when something depends on implementation or local procedure, we say so clearly.
  • Document-driven: we emphasize that the contract/title/permits determine reality, not marketing claims.

4) Fact-checking & verification

Before publishing or updating a guide, we try to verify:

  • The relevant primary regulation text (where accessible).
  • At least one reputable secondary explanation that cites the regulation.
  • That the content does not contradict the source text in a material way.

5) Update policy (freshness)

  • Routine review: key pages are reviewed at least monthly.
  • Trigger updates: we update earlier if laws/regulations change, or if credible sources indicate a major practical shift.
  • Visible dates: important pages show a “Last reviewed” date.

6) Corrections policy

If you believe something is incorrect or outdated, please email: research@balipropertyrules.com

Please include:

  • The page URL and the specific sentence/section
  • A link or document reference supporting the correction
  • Your reasoning in 2–5 sentences

If a correction is valid, we aim to update the page and note the change in a reasonable timeframe.

7) Independence & conflicts of interest

  • Independence: Our intent is educational clarity, not sales.
  • No hidden endorsements: we avoid recommending specific agents, developers, or law firms inside guides.
  • If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored.

8) What we do not do

  • We do not provide legal advice or replace professional counsel.
  • We do not verify individual property listings, sellers, or private contracts via this site.
  • We do not guarantee that any structure is appropriate for your situation.
